In this post, I want to talk about mindset and how important it is to have the right one, especially when you are a creative finding your voice, trying to carve a niche for yourself, fighting your inner doubts wondering, everyday if you are truly good. As creatives, we've got this amazing imagination that runs wild, and we dare to dream big. But oftentimes, we hold ourselves back, afraid to share our wildest ideas, toning them down so they seem more practical and realistic. However, I believe, that's the real beauty and power, of a creative mind- deep within you lies the power to think beyond what others can imagine, to create things that surpass their capabilities, and experience emotions that most people cannot even perceive.
I truly believe, the world needs more creativity, needs more beauty—it needs YOU!
I also understand that many of us have been conditioned to believe that pursuing creativity as a full-time career won't pay the bills. So we settle for treating our art as a side gig or hobby instead of going all in and making it a full-time career or business.
I am fairly new to this world of creative entrepreneurship where I learnt pottery and set-up my pottery business in the last 3 years. But I've always had that creative spark, dabbling in painting on the side for years. But you know what held me back? The whole "starving artist" narrative. It wasn't until the pandemic hit that my perspective shifted, and I started taking my creativity seriously.
Starting my creative business required me to clarify my purpose (my ‘why’) and goals (my ‘what’) and along the way, I learnt the ‘how’- how to navigate the intricacies of running a creative business.
As makers and artists, we put ourselves out there every single day, baring our souls through our work for the world to see and judge. It ain't easy, my friend. While every entrepreneur needs certain skills and persistence, we creatives require a special gumption and the right mindset to keep us going everyday. We need to believe in ourselves, in our abilities, and in our potential to make it happen. And you know what? It all starts in our minds.
When we have a clear vision of what we want to achieve and who we want to become, we will naturally find ways to make that vision a reality. So, before you get practical on the ’how, you have to get inspired, you have to dream, you have to have a vision. If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll not know what steps you need to take to get there.
And this is where the right mindset comes into play. It's what keeps us going against all odds, through the challenges, the resistance, and the struggles. 'Cause deep down, you've got a dream—a dream that fuels your unwavering belief that you're meant for great things.
